If  you and your family, congregation, busi- ness or community group has four hours to volunteer, you can make a difference this spring. Interfaith Senior Programs connects volun- teers with more than 100 local seniors and adults with disabilities who need help with May Yard Clean Up. Volunteers help neigh- bors who lack the physical, family or finan- cial resources to maintain their yards. Volun- teers rake winter debris, clean gutters, wash windows, weed, install screens and trim bush- es.   Volunteers pick a date in May, complete a brief  sign-up sheet and receive information on the person who needs help, their yard, equipment and top tasks.   As one 75-year-old senior served in the fall shared, “This help makes it possible for me to continue living in my home.”   With falls as the leading cause of  accidental injury and death among Wisconsin’s older adults, volunteers’ work also helps prevent needless injuries and hospitalizations.   Helping older adults, adults with disabilities and family caregivers live dignified, meaning- ful and engaged lives in the community while maintaining their independence is the mis- sion of  Interfaith.   In 2011, 764 volunteers provided yard clean- up at 278 homes. Annually, Interfaith volun- teers help 1,100 Waukesha County neighbors with rides to health care appointments and grocery stores, support for caregivers, yard cleanup, lawn mowing, snow removal, friend- ly visits, assistance with bills and forms and minor home repairs.
