Members of the
Fiber Artists Coalition will unveil their latest exhibit,
Conversations in Stitch: On Abstraction, at the Schauer Arts and
Activities Center. The exhibit features art quilts and will be on
display in the Suckow Family Art Gallery from Friday, Oct. 19
through Sunday, Nov. 18.
The exhibit is
designed to encourage viewers to ponder various forms of abstraction
as depicted in fiber art. In Casey Puetz’s Pretty in More Than Pink,
flamingos strut in a variety of bright colors. Entwined by Gwyned
Trefethen, curator of the exhibit, is one of a series of geometric
abstractions where she examines what happens when value is shifted
across artwork from two different directions. Conversation cards are
included with the exhibit so that viewers may share their thoughts
and ask questions of the artists.
The exhibiting
artists are members of Fiber Artists Coalition, a group of
Midwestern textile artists all of whom are professional artist
members of Studio Art Quilt Associates. Their mission is to promote
the art quilt through traveling exhibitions.
A free reception
will be held Friday, Oct. 19 from 6:30-7:30 pm, prior to the
performance of Jason Petty’s The Swingin’ Cowboys. Guests will have
an opportunity to meet the artists and view the exhibit. Light
refreshments are available.
The Suckow Family
Art Gallery is located on the second level of the Schauer Center at
147 N. Rural St. in downtown Hartford. Gallery hours are Monday
