Guitar Festival starts today

BROOKFIELD - Internationally renowned musicians, including jazz guitarist Kevin Eubanks, will play at the 2017 Guitar Festival, which begins today at the Sharon Lynne Wilson Center for the Arts.  

The festival features a $32,000 cash competition in four genres, a vendor hall filled with the latest guitar gear, master classes led by guitar greats and more.

The headliners:

- 7:30 p.m. today - Beijing Guitar Duo - Guitarist Meng Su and Yameng Wang are in the midst of a tour taking them across China, Europe and now the United States. They received a Latin Grammy nomination for “Maracalpe,” the title of their debut CD.  

- 7:30 p.m. Friday - Antoine Dufour and Mike Dawes - Featured on Fingerstyle Friday, French-Canadian Dufour and England’s Dawes will play in that style.  

- 7:30 p.m. Saturday - Kevin Eubanks - The music director of “The Tonight Show” until his 18-year tenure ended, the Philadelphia guitarist has stretched his range to Latin-tinged numbers as well as some Philly funk.  

As far as the competition goes, the semifinals will be Friday and the finals Saturday, beginning at 9 a.m. each day. The categories are classical, finger style, jazz and rock/blues.
