WAUKESHA — State Rep. Scott Allen, R-Waukesha, honored Waukesha resident and police officer Herbert Davis III with the Hometown Hero Award for his fortitude, courage, and professionalism after being wounded while on duty.
On Jan. 27, Davis was dispatched to the area of 25th and St. Paul in Milwaukee and approached a car with a man slumped over in a parked car. After calling for medical help, he recognized that the man was likely under the influence and asked him to step out of the car.
The man then began to struggle with Davis and pulled out a gun. From the video footage of the event, you can see and hear Davis yelling at him to stop. The man opened fire on Davis, who returned fire despite being wounded. When the man stole the officer’s vehicle, Davis professionally called in his location and the description of the suspect. This allowed other officers to quickly apprehend him and provide timely medical aid to Davis.
"It’s frustrating that the accused was predictably out on bail for previous charges despite several occasions of bail jumping," said Allen. "This is another example of how our brave officers are being regularly undermined by the soft-on-crime judges and district attorney in Milwaukee County."
Allen represents Waukesha, Dousman, North Prairie and the towns of Genesee, Mukwonago, Ottawa, and Summit.
